Virtual Session #8: Housing Instability + Solutions Needed
Date: Thursday, September 9, 2021 @ 1:00-2:00PM
Overview: In many counties and municipalities in South Carolina, there is a critical shortage of decent, safe, and affordable residential housing available to low- and moderate-income families. The affordable housing shortage constitutes a danger to the health, safety, and welfare of residents of the state, and is a barrier to sound growth and sustainable economic development for South Carolina counties and municipalities. Affordable housing can include multifamily rental, single-family rental, and single-family homeownership, providing more opportunities to assist families with financial and social sustainability.
Session will discuss:
- Key impacts to residential instability and substandard housing
- Challenges to affordable housing in South Carolina
- Policies, partnerships, and funding needed to improve housing and increase affordable housing stock in the state
